Description

PEEK, or Polyetheretherketone, is a high-performance polymer that’s used in a variety of applications:

  • Properties: PEEK is known for its high flexural strength and modulus, and its ability to withstand extreme environments. It’s also resistant to moisture and has a wide range of chemical compatibility.
  • Uses: PEEK is used in structural applications, chemical processing, battery components, water treatment, chromatography, chemical storage, and more.
  • Manufacturing: PEEK is made by synthesizing monomers, polymerizing the monomers, and then post-processing the resin

Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) is a thermoplastic material with many properties, including:

  • Mechanical strength: PEEK is strong and rigid, with a Young’s modulus of 3.6 GPa and tensile strength of 90–100 MPa.
  • Dimensional stability: PEEK has good dimensional stability and retains its properties in high-temperature and high-pressure environments.
  • Chemical resistance: PEEK is resistant to harsh chemicals and hydrolysis from steam, water, and seawater.
  • Thermal stability: PEEK has a sharp melting point and is resistant to thermal degradation. It can maintain its properties at temperatures up to 338°F (170°C).
  • Low moisture absorption: PEEK has low moisture absorption and permeability.
  • Low outgassing: PEEK has low outgassing and extractables.
  • Solid fire performance: PEEK has solid fire performance.
  • Lower thermal conductivity: PEEK has lower thermal conductivity than most engineering plastics.

PEEK is used in many applications, including:

  • Aerospace
  • Oil and gas
  • Food and beverage processing
  • Semiconductor
  • Electrical connectors
  • Sealing system components
  • Sensor housings
  • Aircraft engines
