Acrylic (Transparent) Rods and Sheets

Description

Acrylic rods are solid, cylindrical pieces of acrylic plastic that are lightweight, durable, and transparent: 

• Properties

Acrylic rods are resistant to UV rays and some weak acids and alkalis. They are also strong, about 10 times stronger than glass but half its weight. 

• Uses

Acrylic rods are used in a variety of applications, including architectural, art and design, lighting, signage, and furniture.

• Manufacturing

Acrylic rods are made by either casting or extruding the acrylic into the desired rod diameter. Cast acrylic rods have a better optical finish and can be made in larger diameters, while extruded acrylic rods are more economical but have a limited diameter.

• Working with acrylic rods

Acrylic rods are easy to machine, cut, drill, and polish. Straight cuts can be made with a table or panel saw and a saw blade designed for acrylic

Acrylic rods have many properties, including:

• Clarity: Acrylic rods are transparent and have excellent clarity.
• Strength: Acrylic rods are strong and have high tensile strength.
• Weatherability: Acrylic rods are resistant to aging and sunlight, and have good weatherability.

• Weight: Cast acrylic rods are lightweight and half the weight of comparable glass.
• Electrical properties: Acrylic rods have good electrical properties.
• Thermal properties: Acrylic rods have a thermal range of -40⁰C to 80⁰C.
• Light transmission: Acrylic rods have a light transmission of greater than 92%
