Description

A vulcanized fiber sheet is a lightweight, strong, and durable material made from cellulose that’s used in many applications, including electrical and electro-mechanical equipment:

  • Properties

Vulcanized fiber is resistant to many things, including mineral oils, petrol, greases, solvents, sunlight, and surface electrical discharges. It also has high dielectric strength, low thermal conductivity, and high flexural strength.

  • Uses

Vulcanized fiber is used in the railroad, textile, welding, and sporting industries. It’s also used to strengthen wood laminations in skis, skateboards, and support beams.

  • Production

Vulcanized fiber is made by heating, pressing, and laminating a slurry created from the chemical reaction of wood or cotton fibers with acids and bases.

  • Forms

Vulcanized fiber can be found in sheets, rods, tubes, rolls, and coil stock. It can be bent, formed, machined, or punched into various shapes and parts.

  • Colors

Vulcanized fiber is typically red, but it can also be brown, grey, black, or white

ulcanized fiber sheets have many properties that make them ideal for electrical and electro-mechanical equipment:

  • Strength

Vulcanized fiber sheets are strong and lightweight, with high tensile and tear strength. They are also shock absorbent and have high flexural strength.

  • Electrical properties

Vulcanized fiber sheets have excellent electrical properties, including high dielectric strength, arc resistance, and track resistance. They have a service temperature of up to 110 to 120 °C.

  • Chemical resistance

Vulcanized fiber sheets are resistant to many solvents, mineral oils, petrol, greases, sunlight, and surface electrical discharges.

  • Machinability

Vulcanized fiber sheets are easy to machine with standard tooling, and can be punched, sawed, sheared, milled, and drilled.

  • Temperature range

Vulcanized fiber sheets can withstand temperatures ranging from -40℃-100℃.

  • Flammability

Vulcanized fiber sheets have a U.L. 94HB flammability rating.

Vulcanized fiber sheets are available in coils and rolls, and can be red, grey, or black. They can be used for a variety of applications, including electrical insulation, cutting boards, gaskets, handles, and more.
