Description
Graphite-filled Teflon PTFE gland packing is a braided packing material that combines the chemical resistance of PTFE with the high-temperature resistance of graphite. It’s used in pumps, valves, mixers, and other rotating equipment.
How it works
- The graphite in the packing is integrated into the yarn, so it stays smooth when rubbed.
- The packing is self-lubricating and absorbs abrasive particles.
- The graphite improves the packing’s thermal conductivity, which is useful for sealing tubes in high-speed pumps.
Where it’s used
- Chemical and pharmaceutical industries: Used to seal hostile chemical systems, acids, and bases
- Food processing industry: Used in food processing plants
- Oil and gas industry: Used in petroleum refining plants
- Power supply industry: Used in chemical services
Properties
Chemical resistant, Heat resistant, Wear resistant, Self-lubricating, Absorbs abrasive particles, Versatile, and Small shrinkage
Graphite-filled PTFE gland packing has many properties, including:
- Chemical resistance: PTFE is chemically inert and resistant to most hydraulic fluids. Graphite is also resistant to corrosion.
- Thermal conductivity: Graphite improves the thermal conductivity of PTFE, making it ideal for high-temperature applications.
- Low friction: Graphite-filled PTFE has a low coefficient of friction, which reduces energy consumption and wear.
- Wear resistance: Graphite-filled PTFE has excellent wear resistance and can handle high loads in high-speed applications.
- High pressure: Graphite improves the packing’s ability to handle higher pressures.
- Extrusion resistance: Graphite-filled PTFE has excellent extrusion resistance.
- Self-lubricating: Graphite-filled PTFE can be self-lubricating.
- Absorbs abrasive particles: Graphite-filled PTFE can absorb abrasive particles.
Graphite-filled PTFE gland packing is used in a variety of applications, including:
- Pumps
- Mixers
- Stirrers
- Chemical processing
- Power generation
- Hydraulic/pneumatic compression type rod and piston seals
- Bearing bands
- Rotary applications
