Mica Sheets and Tubes

Mica sheets are made by soaking mica sheets in resins, drying them, and then bonding them together under high heat and pressure. The thickness of the mica sheet depends on the grade of mica and can range from 0.10 mm to 50 mm.

Description

Mica sheet is a thin, flexible, and durable material made from a naturally occurring silicate mineral that’s used in a variety of applications:

  • Electrical and thermal insulation: Mica sheets are used in electrical components, electronics, and atomic force microscopy.
  • Heating elements: Mica sheets are used to cool heating elements and support wire windings.
  • Paint: Mica is used in paints to improve durability and integrity.
  • Window sheets: Technical grade mica sheets are used as window sheets

Mica sheets have many properties, including:

  • Chemical stability: Mica is chemically inert and stable in the presence of electricity, light, moisture, and extreme temperatures.
  • Heat resistance: Mica sheets are fire resistant and can withstand temperatures up to 600 °C.
  • Electrical properties: Mica sheets have excellent dielectric properties and low electrical conductivity.
  • Mechanical properties: Mica sheets are strong and have good mechanical properties.
  • Transparency: Mica sheets can be transparent to opaque.
  • Flexibility: Mica sheets are flexible and can be split into very thin sheets.

Mica sheets have many properties that make them useful in a variety of applications, including:

  • Thermal stability: Mica sheets can withstand temperatures of up to 1000 °C in pure form and up to 1600°C in build-up form.
  • Electrical properties: Mica has a dielectric strength of around 2000 volts per millimeter, making it ideal for high voltage applications.
  • Mechanical properties: Mica sheets can be cut, punched, stamped, and machined to close tolerances.
  • Resistance to moisture, light, and electricity: Mica is stable when exposed to these elements.
  • Chemical inertness: Mica is chemically inert
  • Elasticity: Mica is elastic
  • Flexibility: Mica is flexible
  • Transparency: Mica can range in opacity from transparent to opaque
  • Weight: Mica is lightweight
